LED Dot Matrix Display



 LED is same with others output display such as seven segment, LCD and etc. LED dot matrix provides more various shapes displayed.

From all industry standards, the range of LED dot matrix digit height ranging if from 0.7” to 4.0” width. Standard  formats are 5x7, 5x8, 8x8, 16x16 and designed to be x,y, scalable with option including high intensity, low current, multicolor and common cathode.

LED dot matrix also has many color types. The color available are single color, dual color and full color. Single and dual color dot matrix is widely used in graphics and moving message. There are many different single colors such as red, green, yellow and so on. The full color dot matrix is specially designed for application high brightness and resolution.



Introduction



This project is about designing a digital clock module using led dot matrix display .Microcontroller (8051) programs are developed to display time generated and characters.
This project consists of three major components, which are the microcontroller, the driver circuit, and the LED dot matrix board. LED dot matrix are well known as well as an effective and economical means of data distribution to the masses. The internal clock pulse of microcontroller is used to count time. The crystal oscillator generates the sequence of clock pulses. The encoded characters are stored into the memory of the microcontroller. During the process the data are sent to the LED dot matrix board for the display of current time through driver circuit. The advantages of this project are high visibility, low power consumption, relatively low hardware requirements and low cost.
